I just created an account on Goodreads.com, so now you can see just how ridiculously few books I read (I added all four books I've read this year, plus the one I'm currently reading, which doesn't show up in the widget below because that's a different "shelf"). Please add me as a friend there so I can envy your reading ability!

Hey, at least you finished GEB!

I haven't updated my GR profile since I started it the second time...

I did in fact finish GEB (after starting over after having it stolen in college when I was about 1/3 of the way through). I thought about posting something about it, but, enh. It's worth reading to the finish, though it bogs down a lot in the cog sci chapters.

When I first read it my reading diet was all RAWilson, Crowley, and tons of philosophy; I made it about halfway through when the computer/ programming logic got to be too much for me.

Earlier this year, I realized I now know a fuck of a lot about programming logic and maybe I should try again.

This time it was the philosophy that defeated me, and I didn't even make it as far as I did before.

One day I'll be in the right mode!

If you really want to go out there, try The Physics of Immortality, which gets into many of the same topics as GEB, but reads better because it's making a point/building up to somewhere.

Thanks. I had no idea that site existed. I'm not going to even try to put in past reads, but I'll start entering the new stuff.

Try Visual Bookshelf on Facebook... I think it's similar. After using it it recommended a dozen other books on my wish list; half of which I have and are now on my to read list.

We really need to merge all these social networking tools. Or hook them up to OpenSocial or something, I dunno.

Added, although it's just books I want to read because my current book is dragging me donwn.

But I want to read books, I don't want to write book reviews. Besides, I might be embarrassed about the content. I suppose I wouldn't actually have to post about The Cat in the Hat... That kind of stuff probably accounts for 90% of the titles, but a much smaller percentage of the text. 99.9% of what I read is science fiction & fantasy, a fair percentage of it Young Adult.

How hard is it to track down the book you're reading so it'll make a nice little picture? Maybe I should see if it can find my current book as a test. (Bright and Shining Tiger by Claudia Edwards -- published in 1988, out of print for lo these many years. I got it at a library used book sale on a lark.)

AH CRAP, that was me. I didn't notice I wasn't logged in til I'd pushed "submit".

You don't have to write reviews, you can just use it as a simple log of books read. (I added one or two sentences to each, basically just what I would say if someone at a party asked me "hey, what did you think of that book?") Your book is there.
