Huh, it's been over a year since my last copyright violation here. Today I was thinking about songs that Should Have Been Hits: great album tracks from popular artists that for whatever reason were not released as singles or chosen for radio play. This will violate my usual rule of only sharing tracks from indie artists, so let's see if I get a letter from the RIAA...

The White Stripes, "There's No Home For You Here": I was convinced this would be a massive summer hit in 2003, but they managed to milk this album for 3 or 4 other hits instead. How can you resist the Queen-style multi-tracked vocals?

Queens of the Stone Age, "In the Fade": This track has guest vocals by Mark Lanegan of the Screaming Trees, so I guess they didn't want to confuse people.

Weezer, "Slob": This is one of those songs that gives me chills every time. Way better than the two singles from this album.

Alien Ant Farm, "Universe": Their cover of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" made them pretty much a one-hit wonder, but I like the rest of the album a lot too. This mp3, the last track on the CD, includes some silence and a kind of lame "bonus track" but I'm too lazy to cut it off.

Blur, "On the Way to the Club": Something about the rhythm and melody makes this track sound like a hit to me, but it wasn't one of the three from this album released as singles. And when Blur played the Craig Kilborn show, they did the one-minute throwaway "We've Got A File On You" twice in succession, which was puzzling but actually pretty awesome. The hidden track "Me, White Noise" is also awesome and should have been a club hit. Not like I have any idea what club hits are, so for all I know maybe it was one.

Anybody have others?
