There's a new women's hairstyle going around that is really annoying me. I've seen it on four celebrities recently: Lisa Kudrow (Friends), Elisha Cuthbert (24), Allison Janney (West Wing), and Heidi Klum (Victoria's Secret). It's hard to describe if you haven't noticed it, but it's a very straight neck-length hairdo that covers the ears. Because it's so recent, I have had a hard time finding pictures; here's Lisa Kudrow and Elisha Cuthbert:

Allison Janney has had it on the last one or two episodes of "The West Wing", but Heidi Klum must have just cut her hair in the last couple days, in between the Victoria's Secret fashion show last weekend and Tuesday's episode of "Late Night With Conan O'Brien". Anyway, bleah, I think it's incredibly ugly, looking like a really cheap wig. Where did this style come from? Does it have a name? Will it please go away soon?

Update: IMDb is being nazi about the Lisa Kudrow picture, apparently. Try this link.

It looks kind of like a modified shag cut to me. Shags were popular in the 70's - must have been, because my stepmom told the hairstylist to do my hair that way. It looked like I had a mop on my head, or perhaps Mrs. Brady. The shag became popular again in the mid-90s, I think because of Friends (but updated a bit). The picture you have up isn't as poofy as what I remember having, and the layers are longer. So now it looks like a threadbare mop on her head.

Yeah, it's different from the "Rachel", which was more tapered I think. This variation looks like two limp curtains hanging over the ears, ending at the shoulders.

Lauren Graham was sporting it on the Ellen DeGeneres show a few days ago, except more sort of splayed out at the edges. Maybe that was more like the original shag. Bleah, I say again.

hrm. the link to mrs. brady doesn't go to mrs. brady anymore - but her hair was more splayed out in the pic I thought I was linking to.

Maybe if this person ate more food, her hair would get thicker and fluffier and it would be more attractive.

Not to mention how absurd it is seeing Kim Bauer in business attire and entrusted with matters of national security! But that's a different rant.

Oh GREAT, now I can't get that haircut because y'all will make fun of me. Guess I'm back to the haircut they gave the formerly-long-haired body builder guy on Queer Eye.

No, you have the best haircut ever. Besides, it'd take you a year or two to grow into this one, and I'm hoping by then it will be way out of fashion again.

Which one was the body-builder? I can't keep all the formerly-long-haired ones straight. (No pun intended.) I just don't understand why they let Carson keep his mullet.

Oh man, the body builder guy was the one who was getting a new life after ending a long relationship and wanted to own his own gym. They named his penis "Alexander the Great" and they got him shorts that kept Alexander from stealing the scene and he was just so sincere about everything. Then he had a back yard barbecue and they showed him being all sweet with his mom.

Anyhow, they gave him the haircut I want but can't seem to get. I should have taped the show.

Also, Carson has way better hair than the hair guy.
