So I started up Adobe Acrobat Reader and was offered to update the latest version of this:
The Atmosphere Player for Acrobat and Adobe Reader is designed to enable use of Atmosphere environments within a PDF document enabling the user the ability to experience a rich variety of interactive content, including three-dimensional objects, directional sound, streaming audio and video, SWF animations, and physical behaviors.
Just what I always wanted, PDF documents that make noise! Also, what's the deal with "enabling the user the ability"?

If you figure out how to make it stop prodding about this without actually installing it, let me know. It's been offering me Atmosphere for, like, years. So long, in fact, that Atmosphere is no longer a supported product, but somebody forgot to let Acrobat Reader know.

Huh, that's weird, this is the first time I've heard about it. I also just noticed that it had me upgrade from 6.0.2 to 6.0.3 (or something like that—I can't actually figure out how to get the plug-in to tell me what version it is now) but there's a 7.0 available on their website.

PDF documents that make noise aren't nearly as scary to me as PDF documents that enable the user to experience three-dimensional objects. That's not two-dimensional images of three-dimensional objects, but actual three-dimensional objects. So open the wrong web page, and a ten-ton weight might leap out of your screen and land on your head!
