Continuing with the tradition of posting songs relating to holidays I don't actually care about, here's two topical tracks, one happy and one not-so-much: Toshack Highway, "Valentine Number One" and Girls Against Boys, "My Funny Valentine". The former is a solo project by Adam Franklin of Swervedriver doing a sort of mellow electronic-tinged pop thing, not totally unlike the Postal Service. The latter is by a then-fashionable NYC post-grunge band from a 1993 Sinatra tribute album; some covers sound too much like the original, but this maybe goes to the other extreme. Still, I like it.

Tracks I decided not to post: Unwound, "Valentine Card"—I didn't feel like cutting it off from "Kantina" and "Were, Are, and Was or Is", and the full track would have been too long otherwise; Outkast, "Happy Valentine's Day"—great song, but probably everybody who cares already has it; anything by My Bloody Valentine—too obvious; Knodel, "Abraham A"—the only thing I could find that could conceivably be related to Lincoln's birthday, but I figured it was too much of a stretch. Catchy tune, though.
