Gotham Psycho

Is Christian Bale really playing Batman, or did I hallucinate that? I mean, seriously, Christian Bale? What, they couldn't get Jude Law or Ewan MacGregor?

is there something wrong with christian bale? he's a decent actor that hasn't gotten many good scripts lately. (also, my sources inddicate that jude law is holding out for james bond.)

Nothing at all wrong with him, I've liked him in many things, from Empire of the Sun to Metroland to Velvet Goldmine and of course American Psycho. (He was even a character in the novel Glamourama.) But "smirking Brit" is not exactly what I think of when I think of Bruce Wayne. Now that I see (from [livejournal.com profile] jfb's link) it's Christopher Nolan and practically a complete British takeover, though, I'm intrigued. The TV show certainly had a kind of Carnaby Street vibe, and I could imagine a Bondish thing working too. We'll see!

Nolan? Is that one trick pony going to use reverse-time-story-telling *again*?

[identity profile] bushmiller.livejournal.com 2005-02-06 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, he used it once, so it's not like it's a habit or anything.

Twice. The Following and Memento.

I've been thinking... I'd probably be upset if someone refered to M. Night Shaymalan as a one trick pony. I suppose directors are allowed to be fond of certain devices, but seeing The Following was a rip off: it wasn't the subtle-for-better-story-telling kind as used by Tarantino. It was just a gimick.

I never saw Kill Bill. After watching the first horrendously violent 10 minutes of this horrendously violent French movie (named Irreversible, which also used the backward time gimick) I decided that I never needed to pay money to put that much violence in front of my eyes again.

You inhabit a world where Keanu Reeves is playing John Constantine and you complain about Christian Bale?

Oh GREAT, now I'm going to be up all night imagining Jude Law as Batman.
