Job application puzzle

Yesterday and today I solved one of the programming puzzles posted on ITA Software's jobs page. It was fun, and I think my solution is somewhat elegant, but I probably won't publish it until they take the puzzle off the main page. Now I have to restrain myself from doing all the other puzzles there...

Well, I only needed to do one to apply for the job. Meanwhile I have too many other things I should be doing. Like, finishing up the dissertation.
