I sort of wondered how "Futurama" got Al Gore to play himself (well, his disembodied head in the far future) several times. Turns out his daughter Kristin Gore was a writer on the show. She's also just written a novel about a senator's aide, filling a "gap in the chick-lit market" (says Jonathan Burnham, editor in chief of Miramax Books).

See, this is what you miss by not watching TV!

Well, actually, there hasn't been much, but The Daily Show was off last week (and will be off this week too, I think). I think Kilborn made a joke about her, but otherwise people stay away from politician daughter jokes.

Yeah, there are certain things I miss out on. Several years ago I was talking to an old friend on the phone and I asked her what she's been up to and she said she watched a bunch of "American Idol." I had to ask, "what's that?" She laughed and told me what it was. I read the Onion to stay on top of some pop culture; but either way the upsides of not watching TV outweight the downsides.
