A couple gas stations nearby are having 6-cents-off-per-gallon sales on weekends. This is just weird.

Fill up your 16 gallon tank, save a dollar! I bet it works to drum up business, too.

A place I used to live near has WILD MONDAYS! They lower gas by 7 cents a gallon on Monday. It forces the station across the street to do the same thing.

And they suck you in with it--I made a point several weeks in a row of always getting gas on Mondays...until I realized that due to traffic patterns, that station is a pain in the butt to drive in and out of, and I was saving 77 cents a week.

They seem to be cashing in on people's collective anxieties. People will go there to feel smart and that they have some control over the situation.

Basically, a win-win.

Hmm! So, spend a dollar (or less or more) to get to the gas station with the deal and (or) wait in line (with car possibly running) to get the tank filled....

And while you're waiting in line, your passenger might go inside for a soda or a coffee. I read somewhere that the gas station itself gets more profit from someone buying a cup of coffee than from someone filling a tank.
