I meant to give you more warning than this, but I kept forgetting: the TBS show "My Boys" starts its second season this Monday at 10pm, with a recap marathon of the entire first season this Sunday at 10am. It's very enjoyable in a guilty-pleasure-ish way, but I'm not actually guilty about it. It's about a late-twenties tomboy sports reporter and her circle of friends, who are all men (except for her one girly-girl confidant). It's a little bit of a gimmick, and each show has voiceover narration tying the plot into a sports metaphor (which I'm hoping they will drop for the second season), but mainly it's just a good solid sitcom with believable characters who say funny things. (No studio audience or laugh track, which I think is called a "single-camera" in the biz.) Jim Gaffigan is the only marginally recognizable face, but all the actors have quite good comedic timing and they banter together well. Bonus points for multi-episode arcs without being a serial, and plenty of good pop culture references, my favorite being (of course) the board game decathlon.

I agree with your assessment of "My Boys". I really lke the side characters...especially Trouty. My wife got me hooked on it and I am really looking forward to more episodes. My only complaint is the blatant product placements for match.com. ...and yes the Board Game Decathlon ranks with the Sopranos Monopoly scene as one of the best board game representations on TV recently :)

Trouty is a great character, but he might not be coming back, since the actor is starring in the new sitcom "The Big Bang Theory" on CBS.
