Immediately after I made a post to LiveJournal containing a bunch of image links—all behind a <lj-cut>—my web server got hit with 100+ requests for the first image on the page. What's up with that?

My favorite one is on toothpaste for dinner (http://www.toothpastefordinner.com/livejournal-pictures.php). Kind of addictive actually.

There are a lot of them, and they are horribly addicting.

I noticed this as well. My website is hosted on ADSL, which of course is 256Kbps.

I learned very quickly to never post images in the body of my posts that got synced to LJ -- it was basically inviting an *instant* denial of service.

I dunno. Why not ask them?

They'll probably answer with some crap about copyright, or their server load (nevermind yours), or laziness.
