PostgreSQL, identd, and Debian Linux

I'm trying to get PostgreSQL up and running on my Debian Linux machine. The default setup uses ident for local user TCP authentication, but I don't appear to have identd installed. First question, should I install identd, or use some other form of authentication? It's a single-user machine, behind a router firewall, nothing fancy. I could just use Unix domain sockets, but TCP would be a bit more convenient. Second question, Debian has at least 8 different identd packages, which one should I use?

Maybe ident2?

Or whichever one you think is best. I don't think it matters much. Throw a dart at the screen.
