A couple music-related things:

Today I published something I've been working on for the last 4 years, on and off: the results of the Chugchanga-L Members' Favorite Releases poll from 2003. Chugchanga-L is an indie music discussion mailing list that I've been on since 1993, and I've been conducting the annual poll since 1995. But after collecting the 2003 entries I never got around to tabulating the results—I was stressing out about my dissertation and it fell to the back burner. I also ended up doing a bunch more work than was probably necessary, but it was educational and fun: I transferred everything from text files to PostgreSQL and made a Scheme servlet that helped me link every release to its MusicBrainz page (using their XML Web service, which switched from RDF to a simpler format right after I finished implementing an RDF library in Scheme). Anyway, I still have more things to do—transfer the old polls over to the new system, and update the entry form servlet so I can run new polls for 2004-2007—but it feels good to finally get this out the door.

(By the way, Chugchanga-L is a private list; technically I'm violating the rules by posting about it here, but I'm hoping that LiveJournal is more like "word-of-mouth and personal recommendation" than "announcing in a public forum". Anyway, if you're interested in joining, let me know. It's pretty low traffic.)

The other thing I did today is buy a ticket to Terrastock 7, a music festival that's being held in Louisville, KY this June 19-22. Today's the last day to get the reduced price tickets ($55 vs. $85), which you should consider if you have any interest in this kind of music. (I'm not even going to attempt to define "this kind of music"—maybe browse around MySpace for audio samples.) I've been to all 6 previous festivals, going back to 1997 in Providence, RI, and it'll be nice to see all the familiar faces and bands (and new ones, too).
