I was thinking of posting a write-up of Terrastock 6, but I'm feeling less and less motivated as the days go by. Let's just say: I saw lots of great music, I hung out with cool people I hadn't seen in a while, and I bought way too many new CDs. I might put up some pictures at some point. Meanwhile I'm going to PA's Lounge tonight to see two bands I missed, Tanakh (from Italy) and St. Joan (from England), with the Lothars opening at 9pm. I was seriously considering taking a train down to Philadelphia this weekend to see Major Stars and Bardo Pond again, but I think I've finally decided that I'd better stay home and catch up with other stuff. One of these days, though, I do really want to see Bardo Pond in their home city.
Anyway, I came across two interesting links today. The first is from
joecab, some rumors and discussion about the upcoming Tivo Series 3. This will be dual-tuner and HDTV-capable, but more importantly will have two CableCard slots—i.e. both tuners can receive premium digital channels, and you don't need to spend the extra $10/mo for the HDTV cable box. Another rumor (mentioned in the comments) is that Comcast will offer a Tivo interface upgrade for their existing cable box. Either of these would be fine with me, although the Tivo 3 has the extra appeal of allowing external hard drives. No date is set for release yet, but when I called Tivo to cancel my subscription last month, two different people said it would be out by the fall. (According to yet another rumor in the comments for that post, the delay of Tivo HDTV is at least in part due to negotiations with the film studios. I'm not sure I buy this—how does Comcast get away with it, then?)
The other link is from
ketzl: "the benefits to wildlife of removing people from [Chernobyl] have far outweighed any harm from radiation."
