It's weird to get in my car to head home from work and notice the clock is displaying the same time as it was when I got into the car to go to work this morning. Fortunately it wasn't in 24-hour mode.

Up until a few weeks ago my rear speakers had the annoying tendency to go >blap< whenever I listened to anything with a kick drum, so I usually had to turn the bass way down, making things a bit tinny. Then I finally actually looked at the amplifier and noticed the high-pass filter for the rear speakers was off. So I turned it on, and now I can Turn Up The Bass! Ahhh.

For the last few months, or maybe longer, my right front speaker has been out of operation. There's some loose connection that goes in and out, but mostly out. Today it came back in, with the new improved bass levels. It's like I have a whole new stereo!

Great commute songs: Neu!, "Hallogallo" (on WZBC this morning) and U2 "An Cat Dubh/Into the Heart" (on my 10-disc CD changer on shuffle, this evening).

Time for a nice proto-surf instrumental: The Fireballs, "Bulldog". Not exactly "Misirlou", but it's got the reverbed guitar, the cymbal ride, and that classic 2-1 beat.

This is the first track of the Cowabunga! 4-disc Rhino compilation, but I made this mp3 from the Sundazed reissue of the first (self-titled) Fireballs record. I think it's the second-earliest-recorded CD I own; the earliest is Shostakovich's "Leningrad" symphony performed by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in 1957. I picked it up because it was cheap and I was curious after hearing a bit of it on the radio, but I think it was cheap because recordings of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in 1957 just kinda suck. I should probably get a more modern recording, because the music is pretty cool.
