Answers to questions nobody asked me
I saw
nothings and
pobig answering these questions and thought I'd do the same, because I'm feeling randomly chatty:
What is the meaning of your LJ user name?
First name, last initial. I've used it as my username since my first non-classwork Unix account in college, which was either soda.berkeley.edu or cory.berkeley.edu, I forget. I think it must have been soda, because I have a vague recollection of being assigned "dorleans" on cory and having to go and ask it to be changed. Before that, I used "ATARIAN" and "WTRABBIT" on BBSs; the former because I was using an Atari 800 at the time, the latter because I had a bad habit of always being late for things. I later used "WhiteRabbit" on muds, but eventually switched over to "Ragnar", named after a character in Atlas Shrugged who was a pirate/philosopher, because I like the Pittsburgh Pirates (and philosophy).
What 3 LJ friends have you known longest?
lolathehated is my sister, born in 1987;
chupchup was the first person I met on a mud, AtlantisMUCK circa May 1990; and I think I met
evilmicrowizard in one of the Truth or Dare lounges on Islandia in summer 1990. I didn't meet either of them in person until years later, of course. If we're only counting friends I've met in person, I met
shannon_a around fall 1990 at Cal, and then, hm, the next may actually have been
chupchup whom I met in 1992 on a road trip to San Diego (or was it Santa Barbara?) with my roommate blojo. And I may have met
rosminah on that trip too. Coincidentally, I met blojo on Islandia, and I also met
shannon_a through him at Cal.
Have you had sex with any of your LJ friends?
Yes, but long before I knew about LJ.
Is/are your significant other/s on LJ?
N/A.
Do you have LJ friends you've never met in real life?
A few, although
genericus is the only one I didn't already know through some other online community.
Do you have friends you met first on LJ, then in real life?
Nope. Plenty I met first elsewhere online, of course.
Does it hurt your feelings when someone unfriends you?
Depends on the friend. It would also depend on the reason, but it'd be rude to ask. I don't mind someone not wanting to read my posts, but I would probably miss being able to read friends-only posts (if any).
What would make you unfriend someone?
Not sure. If someone got really spammy or annoying I would be more likely to set up friends filters so I could keep separate friends pages. If I made more friends-only posts I might be more careful about who could read them, but right now I plan to stay public-only. (Except for that one friends-only post that I made just so my friends could feel special, which was actually less revealing than this post.)
Do you discuss personal information in your LJ?
Sure. I'm pretty open about most things in my life (especially when asked); on the other hand, the things I wouldn't want to publish to the world are generally things I wouldn't even want to tell my friends, or else maybe just a very small subset of my friends, and this doesn't seem like the place to do that. Also, my rule of thumb is that I don't want to post things that I wouldn't find interesting to read in someone else's journal, so there's not a lot of day-to-day minutiae or internal monologue dumping.
